what I interpreted from you was that since it is out there then it is ok and that is like the bridge...my friend did it so can I....I know what you are saying is true, there is a whole lot worse out there, I agree, don't make any of it right does it.

No but myself nor others are responsible for what else is out there to be found out on the internet...and we're not responsible for the monitoring of anyones' children. The internet is one of the few places where freedom of speech is a lot more free than anywhere else...less fear of censorship. And I'm not talking about porn, cussing, or violent argument. I'm talking political debate, religious discussion, free-sharing of ideas. However...the good goes with the bad. If you like the good freedoms then the bad comes along with it. It's like a filter. If you filter out all the bad things, but the filter's too small, then you lose some of the good things. If your filter is big enough to let all the good things through, then some bad things are bound to get through as well. It's a matter of how we want to live--in fear of the bad stuff, or in embracing all of the good that this board can be while minimizing the bad.

no one said you were responsible for what all is on the web. My kid don't get on here, so as far as defending my child seeing something oh well cause she could care less, I have parental controls on her computer she has in her room and we run regular checks to see what she is doing (sometimes that don't work cause she still gets into trouble, she is grounded at this time for that stuff) but we found it, we found out. What I am talking about is porn, cussing, and violent argument. If my kid can engage in a reasonably intelligent convo on politics, religion, and free-sharing of ideas then so be it more power to her, I encourage that. Blasting others, name calling, total disregard for others is what I am talking about. I just think people can disagree without threat without belittling and without having a holier than thou attitude.

I agree. I'm guilty of some of the more heated arguments and name-calling on here, but only due to having people attack my loved ones, unduely. I need to be more careful about that. The other arguments are logical arguments I get into, which are healthy debates amongst adults for the most part. I don't think a child wants to read over these arguments/debates b/c the posts get both complicated and long when stuff like this goes on.

Sadly, there are some people that this forum is life & death to. I'm not one of them, but there are some who get on here just to feel big & bad. If we eliminated that as opposed to worrying too much about an avatar here or there, then it'd be a lot better place for kids, IMO.
